G.D.Parada

The project 'G.D.Parada' takes on the name of a small, amateur football club in the town of Parada de Ester (Castro Daire, Portugal).

Diary excerpt:

"Under uneven floodlights Luis and I discuss the possibilities of this recording session, smoking cigarettes as the players arrive in dribs and drabs making their ways to the dressing room. This is the routine, sat on the low wall that runs alongside the touchline, the sun descending in a red sky behind the mountains, the customary 'boa noite, tudo bem?' exchanged with some of the players, waiting for an opportunity to ask the coach what he has planned for this evening's training session (he is busily placing small, plastic cones in groups of threes and fours around one half of the pitch, and Luis and I attempt to deduce what movements the players might be making through this space and where we might most advantangeously place microphones to capture this movement)."

Project development:

'G.D.Parada' was developed as a project at the Nodar Artist Residency Centre across two residencies during 2008 and 2009. It was first shown as a single-screen video / 4-channel sound installation at the clubhouse of Grupo Desportivo de Parada, prior to a derby match between Parada and local rivals Lamelas in 2008. In 2010, it was re-developed as a 4-channel sound work as part of 'Documenta-se' at the Museu Serralves (Porto, Portugal), alongside an 8-channel sound work, 'Sussex by the Sea'. It is currently being reworked as a video / sound work with the financial assistance of Binaural / Nodar.
